The App Store Review team declines UTM SE PC Emulator
The recent decision by the App Store Review team to decline the UTM SE PC Emulator has left many people puzzled about the boundaries of what is permissible on the platform.
The OS System’s inability to support apps from both third-party marketplaces and the iOS app store is due to the failure to meet notarization guidelines. Despite this setback, the early windows and DOS emulators on UTM SE have now been updated to include support for Commodore 64, Atari ST, and Commodore Amiga, with emulators now available on iOS.
It is important to note that these restrictions do not extend to the Mac UTM version, which remains accessible on the Mac App Store. This software enables users to run emulations of Windows 10, 11, or older versions of macOS.
In a significant shift that took place in April of this year, Apple reversed a rule that previously prohibited apps running external code. This change paved the way for retro game emulators to be allowed on the platform, as long as they adhere to the guidelines. Prior to this revision, emulator apps were only accessible on jailbroken devices.
