Generative AI Settings in Windows 11 Build 26236.5000
Windows 11’s upcoming version update, known as 24H2, has been in development for some time now. Recent Insider builds have started introducing new settings, such as the “AI component updates,” to manage updates. Microsoft has now added a new Generative AI sub-page in the Privacy & security settings.
Windows Latest discovered this change in the latest Canary build 26236.5000 for Windows 11. The new Generative AI option can be found under the App Permission settings, redirecting users to a new page with multiple options.
The first option, “Generative AI access,” allows users to choose whether apps can utilize Generative AI on their PC. The second option, “Let Apps use generative AI,” enables apps to utilize the AI features. Users can expect all supported apps to be listed below this option with individual toggles for control.
If the first option is disabled, the second option will automatically turn off as apps will not be able to use Generative AI.
Microsoft researcher PhantomOcean3 also uncovered a third setting that does not appear after installing this new build. Users must use Vivetool to add the feature to the Settings app. This third option, titled “Recent activity,” displays all Generative AI requests made by the PC in the last seven days. These settings are subject to change by Microsoft, including modifications, grouping, or relocation to other sections of the Settings app.
Account Manager in the Start Menu
The latest Canary build also includes a new account manager in the Start menu and improvements to the Microsoft Store. The profile icon now provides a brief overview of the user’s Microsoft account, associated services, and advertisements. Clicking on any option redirects users to the Account page in the Settings app.
With this change, the Lock option has been moved to the Power menu, while the switch user and sign-out options are now hidden behind a drop-down list. Previously, a Managed Devices section was available in the Settings app, listing all devices connected to the user’s Microsoft account.
The Microsoft Store has been optimized for faster performance, allowing users to make payments and earn Microsoft Rewards points for each purchase. Accumulated points can be used for a gift card during checkout, providing discounts for users.
