Windows 11 feature that extracts texts from Android rolls out to everyone

Enhanced Phone Link Experience

Microsoft continues to enhance the Phone Link experience for Windows users with new and improved features. The latest update includes the addition of a Managed Devices section, allowing users to utilize their phone as a web camera. Additionally, a new feature has been introduced that enables users to easily copy screenshots from their phone to their desktop.

Introducing Scan Text Feature

One of the most notable additions to the Phone Link app is the Scan Text feature, which utilizes OCR technology to extract text from photos. This feature, available in version 1.24052.124.0 of the app, allows users to easily copy text from images of documents, notes, or identity cards.

Testing and Feedback

In our testing of the Scan Text feature, we found that it works best with English text and may need improvements for other languages. Microsoft will need to address this issue in future updates to ensure a seamless experience for all users.

Edit Phone Screenshots on Your PC

The integration of Android devices with Windows is improving with each new feature. The Cross Device Experience Host package now enables users to edit screenshots captured on their phone directly on their PC. This feature, available for both Windows 11 and 10 users, offers a seamless editing experience with the Snipping Tool, complete with emoji support.

Future Developments

Microsoft is also exploring the possibility of direct file sharing between Windows and Android devices through the Phone Link app. While this feature is still in the experimental phase, it showcases Microsoft’s commitment to enhancing the connectivity between devices for a more streamlined user experience.
