Google continues to enhance privacy and security with each iteration of its Android operating system, and the recent launch of Android 15 is no exception. This latest update introduces notable changes, particularly affecting how notifications are handled between devices.
Sensitive notifications won’t be mirrored from some devices running Android 15 (One UI 7.0)
In a recent development, Microsoft’s Phone Link app for Windows has begun issuing warnings regarding the mirroring of notifications from Android 15 devices. As reported by Mishaal Rahman, notifications that contain sensitive information—such as two-factor authentication codes and credit card details—will not be mirrored to linked Windows PCs.
This change stems from Android 15’s enhanced privacy features, which classify certain notifications as sensitive. Consequently, information from these notifications is not shared with third-party applications. Since Phone Link falls into this category, it is unable to access sensitive notifications, resulting in their absence on paired Windows devices.
However, users of devices that come pre-loaded with the Phone Link app and support the Companion Device Role, such as Galaxy smartphones running One UI 6.1 or newer, will still receive these sensitive notifications as intended.
For those who wish to bypass this limitation, there is an option to disable the ‘Enhanced Notifications’ setting in Android 15. It is important to note, though, that doing so will also disable advanced features like reply suggestions, which could impact user experience.
