Microsoft is enhancing its Link to Windows app for Android, a tool that bridges the gap between Android devices and Windows PCs, making connectivity more seamless than ever. This update introduces a suite of new features aimed at improving user experience and expanding functionality.
New Features Unveiled
The latest iteration of the Link to Windows app allows users to remotely lock their Windows PCs using their Android devices, a significant step towards greater control and security. Additionally, users can now check essential information such as battery and Wi-Fi status directly from their phones, as well as cast their phone’s screen without needing to interact with the PC app.
Previously available in Windows’ development channels, these features are now being rolled out to a wider audience through the Insider program. This move reflects Microsoft’s commitment to enhancing cross-device functionality, particularly for the growing number of users who rely on both Android and Windows platforms.
Streamlined File Management
In a bid to simplify file sharing, the updated app now allows direct file transfers without the need to use Android’s share sheet. This enhancement is expected to streamline workflows for users who frequently move files between their devices. Moreover, the app now provides access to recent files and the ability to view the clipboard from the PC, further integrating the two ecosystems.
Interface Improvements
Alongside these functional upgrades, the Link to Windows app has received a refreshed interface, designed to enhance usability and aesthetic appeal. Users can expect a more intuitive experience as they navigate through the app’s features.
While these updates are not yet available in the stable channels of Windows 11, users can participate in the Insider program to gain early access. To do so, they must ensure they are running version 1.25071.155 of the Link to Windows app, which can be obtained by joining the beta program on the Play Store.
Once the necessary requirements are met, users can enable the new features by navigating to Windows Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mobile devices > Manage devices on their PCs, selecting their Android device, and activating the appropriate toggles.
