A New Way to Stay Informed: Google App Beta Update

Android users, take note: the Google app is enhancing your search experience with a new addition to its interface. The latest beta version introduces a “Notifications” feed, neatly tucked into the bottom bar alongside familiar options like Discover and Search. This update, initially rolled out on the mobile version of Google for Android, was first spotted by the keen eyes at 9to5Google.

The new Notifications feature serves as a centralized hub for alerts generated by Google Search. It consolidates updates on weather, flights, sports, entertainment, and more into two simple categories: “Today” and “Earlier.” This curated list ensures that you never miss out on important information, even if you’ve overlooked a notification when it first arrived. It’s a more streamlined alternative to sifting through the broader notification history on your Android device.

Interacting with these notifications is intuitive. A tap will direct you to a page related to the alert’s topic, while the overflow menu offers options to delete notifications or to adjust your preferences, preventing similar alerts in the future.

For those eager to try out the Notifications feature, it’s available through the Google app beta version 15.20. If you’re not yet a beta tester, joining is a breeze and comes at no cost. Simply sign up here.

Currently, the Notifications tab is exclusive to beta users. The general release of the app, version 15.19, hasn’t been graced with this feature just yet. Google has kept mum on the official release date for the Notifications page to the wider user base, but given its potential to streamline information access, many are hopeful for its prompt arrival.
