Elon Musk has introduced XChat, a secure messaging service designed to elevate X, formerly known as Twitter, into a multifaceted communication platform, as reported by Azernews. This innovative feature is set to challenge established messaging giants such as WhatsApp, Telegram, and iMessage, with a pronounced focus on privacy, file sharing, and cross-platform calling capabilities.
Developed entirely from the ground up using Rust—a modern programming language renowned for its performance and memory safety—XChat boasts several noteworthy attributes. Among these is its implementation of Bitcoin-style encryption, which draws inspiration from blockchain technology to enhance security. The platform employs end-to-end encryption, ensuring that conversations remain confidential and accessible solely to the sender and recipient. This robust security measure effectively prevents third parties, including the platform itself, from accessing any message content.
Currently, XChat is in the beta testing phase, available to a select group of users, with plans for a broader rollout in the near future. However, an official launch date has yet to be announced.
