WhatsApp is making strides in enhancing user experience with the introduction of a built-in document scanning tool tailored for Android devices. Currently, this innovative feature is exclusively accessible to users participating in the beta testing program. Nestled within the attachment section, it appears alongside familiar options such as “Browse Documents” and “Choose from Gallery.” Upon selection, users can activate the camera to effortlessly capture physical documents, receipts, or forms directly within the WhatsApp interface, eliminating the need for additional applications.
Features and Functionality
The document scanner boasts both manual and automatic modes. Users have the flexibility to either take the photograph themselves or allow WhatsApp to automatically detect the edges of the document and capture it. Once the image is captured, it undergoes processing locally on the device, transforming it into a PDF format that can be shared seamlessly, just like any other file. In line with WhatsApp’s commitment to user privacy, all scanned files are safeguarded with end-to-end encryption.
At present, this feature is limited to select Android beta users, specifically those utilizing versions such as 2.25.19.21 and 2.25.18.29. However, anticipation builds as it is expected to be rolled out to the broader Android user base soon, following the completion of testing and the collection of user feedback.
