Visual Enhancements in Personal Safety App
Recent insights from an Android Authority teardown have unveiled a series of visual transformations set to enhance Google’s Personal Safety app. This app serves as a crucial resource during emergencies, enabling users to swiftly access help, record video, and utilize various safety features. The upcoming changes align with Google’s Material 3 Expressive design language, particularly focusing on the emergency contacts menus.
The latest version of the app, identified as 2025.06.12.772866699.3-release, showcases a range of aesthetic updates. These modifications include bold headers and information fields neatly enclosed in white boxes, complete with dividing lines for clarity. The toggles have also been redesigned, now displaying an “X” or a tick to indicate status. Notably, the Add contact feature has transitioned from a conventional text field to a more visually appealing pill-shaped green button.
Another significant update is the introduction of a three-dot button for each contact. This feature allows users to quickly remove or reorder contacts with ease. In contrast, the current interface employs an “X” icon for removal, while reordering necessitates navigating to a separate screen via a Reorder button. Although the new design may complicate the removal process slightly, it streamlines the reordering of contacts, enhancing user experience.
It is important to note that these expressive design elements are expected to be exclusive to Android 16 QPR1 for the time being. This is due to the integration of Emergency Contacts functionality within the core Android settings, specifically in the Safety and Emergency section, which is also undergoing updates for Android 16 QPR1. This redesign marks yet another step in Google’s ongoing efforts to refresh its applications, following similar updates to Chrome, Google Messages, and the Phone app.
