pgEdge, Inc., a frontrunner in the realm of distributed PostgreSQL solutions, has unveiled the latest iteration of pgEdge Cloud. This innovative Cloud Edition stands out as the first fully distributed Database as a Service (DBaaS) that is entirely built on the popular open-source PostgreSQL database. Tailored for applications that necessitate deployment across multiple cloud regions, pgEdge Cloud empowers businesses to achieve high availability, minimize latency, and adhere to data residency regulations.
New Features and Enhancements
The recent release of pgEdge Cloud introduces multi-availability zone support and builds upon the advancements made in pgEdge Platform v25. These improvements enhance the platform’s robustness, particularly for mission-critical, geo-distributed applications that require continuous availability and efficient conflict resolution.
Highlighted enhancements in pgEdge Cloud include:
- Multi-Availability Zone Support: Customers can now deploy multiple nodes within the same region across different availability zones. This feature enhances fault tolerance and aligns with high-availability best practices, allowing for more flexible and resilient cluster configurations.
- Expanded Automatic Conflict Resolution: The latest release introduces advanced conflict handling tailored for distributed environments. This reduces the necessity for application-level exception handling code, automatically resolving scenarios such as duplicate inserts and missing delete targets. Additionally, it supports unique constraint violations through configurable Last-Write-Wins logic, simplifying application development in multi-node setups.
- Improved Performance: pgEdge Cloud showcases significant performance enhancements, especially in replication operations. Exception handling is now executed in-memory, which decreases latency and accelerates conflict resolution. The redesign of lag tracking to operate at the target node enhances measurement accuracy and avoids misleading lag reports during idle periods, resulting in faster and more reliable replication across distributed clusters.
“We are very pleased to announce that the latest release of pgEdge Cloud is available and, as before, built on standard open source PostgreSQL,” stated Phillip Merrick, Co-founder and CEO of pgEdge. “These key enhancements continue to support our mission to make it easy for developers to build, deploy, and run enterprise-class distributed Postgres applications across the global network.”
In addition to these advancements, pgEdge has successfully completed a System and Organization Controls (SOC) 2 Type II audit conducted by Sensiba LLP. This audit, developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), evaluates controls relevant to trust services criteria, including security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy. Notably, pgEdge’s SOC 2 Type II report received a “clean” audit opinion, indicating no exceptions were noted.
