Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Chips Set to Power Windows 11 Laptops
Tomorrow marks the official shipment day for Windows 11 laptops equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X chips. Despite the absence of Microsoft’s Recall feature, Qualcomm is determined to compete with industry giants like Intel, AMD, and Apple in the laptop market.
Famed tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that Windows 11 Copilot+ PCs featuring Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus chips will be integrated into two million notebooks by the end of 2024. Major manufacturers such as Microsoft, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, Acer, and Asus are gearing up to release new laptops with these chips, with some units already in the hands of users.
Looking ahead to 2025, Kuo anticipates a significant surge in the adoption of Snapdragon X series chips, projecting a growth rate of 100 to 200 percent compared to 2024.
However, Kuo’s insights into Qualcomm’s future plans are even more intriguing. He suggests that Qualcomm is developing modified versions of the Snapdragon X Elite and Plus chips that will lead to lower end product prices. The specifics of these modifications remain undisclosed.
Furthermore, Kuo reveals that Qualcomm is preparing to unveil a new processor for Windows on ARM in the fourth quarter of 2025. Codenamed Canim, this chip will be manufactured using TSMC’s N4 node and is tailored for mainstream PCs priced between 9 and 9. Despite the affordability, the Canim processor is expected to deliver the same processing power as the Snapdragon X Elite and Plus chips, boasting 40 TOPS.
