Shareholders of the European gaming company Thunderful Group have given the green light to Atari’s acquisition of a significant stake in the firm. Following this approval, Atari will secure ownership of 81.7 percent of Thunderful, facilitated by the issuance of 333,333,334 new ordinary shares. The total investment for Atari in this venture amounts to SEK 50 million, equivalent to approximately .3 million.
New Leadership on the Horizon
As part of this strategic move, Atari’s chief operating officer, Geoffroy Châteauvieux, and chief technology officer, Andreas Deptolla, are set to join the board of Thunderful. This transition follows Atari’s announcement in July 2025 regarding its intent to acquire Thunderful, marking a significant step in the company’s expansion plans.
In addition to this acquisition, Atari has recently broadened its portfolio by acquiring five game intellectual properties from Ubisoft, including notable titles such as Transport Tycoon and Surgeon Simulator. This diversification reflects Atari’s commitment to enhancing its offerings in the competitive gaming landscape.
On the other hand, Thunderful has faced considerable challenges in recent years, leading to a series of layoffs and the divestiture of various business segments. The company has sold off parts of its operations, including its distribution network, as well as its subsidiaries, Headup and Jumpship, in an effort to stabilize its financial standing.
