Windows 11 Restore Only
In a significant update for organizations utilizing Windows Backup, it is essential to note that while the tool effectively backs up settings for devices operating on Windows 10 version 22H2 and Windows 11 version 22H2 or later, the restoration feature is exclusively available for Windows 11 version 22H2 or newer. This means that users who remain on Windows 10 will find themselves unable to restore their settings. As a reminder from Leschke, “With Windows 10 support ending on October 14, 2025,” the introduction of this new tool may serve as a valuable aid in facilitating a smoother transition to Windows 11.
To leverage the capabilities of Windows Backup for Organizations, there is a prerequisite: the application of the August 2025 Windows security update. Typically, systems will be Entra-joined; however, organizations operating on-premises domains can also take advantage of this feature if they are hybrid joined, meaning that Active Directory is integrated with Entra ID.
Microsoft has indicated that the Restore setting is being rolled out gradually. For those who do not see it available in their Intune tenant immediately, a brief wait of about a week may be necessary. Once activated, the backup process will occur automatically every eight days, ensuring that user settings and preferences are securely saved within the organization’s tenant data store.
