Microsoft Windows 11 Update Glitch Hinders Move to Enterprise Subscription
Microsoft has recently acknowledged issues with its latest Windows 11 updates, causing difficulties for users attempting to transition from Windows 11 Pro to Enterprise. The problem was highlighted in the “known issues” list for the June 11, 2024, update for Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2 – KB5039212.
According to Microsoft, users may encounter obstacles during the upgrade process, with potential errors displayed in the LicenseAcquisition scheduled task in Task Scheduler. The error code 0x80070005 may appear under ‘Last Run Result’, indicating an ‘Access denied error’.
Transitioning to an Enterprise license is a common practice for enterprises introducing new hardware to their systems. The issue is likely to cause frustration for many administrators, especially since the update includes crucial security patches and fixes for various issues, such as the BitLocker resume problem.
Unfortunately, there is currently no workaround available for the issue. Microsoft has assured users that a resolution is in progress and will be included in a future Windows update.
The glitch seems to have originated from the April 2024 patch Tuesday update, as Microsoft has updated the “known issues” list for that release to address the problem. Although the issue has not been added to the Release Health dashboard for Windows 11, Microsoft has acknowledged additional problems with the Photos app update on devices with specific settings enabled.
Users experiencing issues with the Photos app may encounter a spinning circle upon launch, followed by a sudden disappearance. The error may be displayed as an Access Denied error on Process Exit if the Procmon monitoring tool is installed on the device.
For Windows Home edition users, the likelihood of facing these troubles is minimal unless specific group policies are applied. As with the Enterprise subscription upgrade issue, Microsoft is actively working on a solution for the Photos app problem.
