Google starts rolling out Gemini for Home to early access users

Google has initiated the rollout of its innovative Gemini for Home, specifically targeting users who have enrolled in the early access program. Announced just last week, Gemini for Home introduces a suite of features designed to enhance user interaction with their smart devices. Among these is the Ask Home functionality, which allows users to inquire about their devices, video history, and more using natural language queries. Additionally, Gemini will provide AI-generated descriptions and context for notifications, along with a new feature called Home Brief that summarizes key moments.

For those eager to experience Gemini’s capabilities ahead of the broader rollout, signing up for the Early Access program is essential. Users can easily join by navigating to the Google Home app (version 4.0 and above) and selecting Settings > Early Access to complete their registration.

Reports from early access participants indicate that some have already received notifications confirming their access to the AI assistant within the Google Home app. It’s crucial to note that the early access program for Gemini is distinct from Google Home’s public preview program, necessitating a separate sign-up even for existing public preview users.

The rollout of Gemini for Home commenced on October 1 for cameras and doorbells across several countries, including the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland. The broader rollout for smart speakers and displays is anticipated to begin later this month in the US, with plans to expand to additional countries by early 2026.
