Your Windows 11 taskbar just got a major, long-requested feature

If you’re among the many users who rely on a multi-monitor setup with Windows 11, a recent update brings a long-awaited enhancement to your experience. Launched in late September, this update allows users to access the notification center from any monitor, breaking free from the limitations of only being able to do so from the primary display.

Fixes an age-old problem

Microsoft shared this exciting news on a support page for the update identified as KB5065789, which was highlighted by Windows Central. This update addresses a persistent issue that had frustrated users: the inability to access notifications on secondary monitors. According to Microsoft, “The Notification Center functionality is now available on secondary monitors.” Users can simply click on the date and time in the system tray on any monitor to open the notification center.

Previously, attempts to click the date and time on a secondary monitor yielded no results—no error messages, just silence. This limitation was particularly irksome for those who utilize multiple screens for productivity. Now, with the new functionality, clicking the date and time on any monitor brings up notifications at the top and a calendar below, mirroring the experience on the primary monitor. Additionally, right-clicking in the same area allows for adjustments to date and time settings, as well as notification preferences.

Other features

The KB5065789 update doesn’t stop at notifications; it also introduces several enhancements across various features in Windows 11. Users can expect improvements in File Explorer, desktop functionality, passkeys, Click to Do, Settings, Narrator, and more. To take advantage of these updates, users should navigate to Settings, select Windows Update, and click the button to check for updates. If KB5065789 appears, simply allow it to download and install.

With these updates, Microsoft continues to refine the Windows 11 experience, catering to the needs of its diverse user base and enhancing productivity across the board.
