Windows 11 Store gets Ninite-style multi-app installer feature

The Microsoft Store has introduced an innovative feature on its web platform, allowing users to create a multi-app install package for Windows 11. This new functionality enables the simultaneous installation of multiple applications through a single installer, streamlining the setup process for users.

This experience mirrors that of third-party app managers like Ninite, which have long provided the convenience of bulk installations. With this enhancement, users can now bypass the tedious task of downloading each application individually, making the process significantly more efficient.

How does Microsoft Store’s multi-app install work?

Previously, navigating the Microsoft Store required users to visit each app’s product page to initiate downloads. While this method was functional, it often proved cumbersome, particularly when configuring a new PC.

With the introduction of multi-app install support, users can now visit the Store on the web, select their desired applications, and generate a package that facilitates the download and installation of all chosen apps in one go.

This feature, which quietly rolled out earlier this week, allows users to select multiple apps and click on “Install selected.” To maintain optimal performance, the Store limits the number of apps that can be downloaded simultaneously to 16.

Upon selecting “Install selected,” the Store web will download an executable file that manages the installation of all chosen applications in the background, enhancing user experience and efficiency.

However, it’s worth noting that this feature is currently limited to the web version of the Store and does not function within the Store app on Windows 11. Additionally, users can only select from a curated list of 64 apps at this time. BleepingComputer has reached out to Microsoft to inquire about plans to expand this feature to include a broader selection of applications from the Microsoft Store.
