YouTube is testing a new way for sharing videos with your friends

YouTube is embarking on an innovative journey, introducing a feature that promises to enhance the way users interact with videos within its mobile app. This new functionality allows users to directly message and share videos, creating a more integrated experience for those who wish to discuss and enjoy content together.

New Messaging Feature in the YouTube App

In a move that could redefine video sharing, Google has initiated an experiment that enables users to share their favorite videos—be it long-form content, Shorts, or live streams—directly through the YouTube app. Instead of relying on external messaging platforms, users will soon have the option to engage with friends and family right where the content resides.

To utilize this feature, participants must be at least 18 years old and signed into a YouTube channel. The process is straightforward: users can tap on the notification bell within the app and select the sharing option. This action generates an invite link that can be sent to others, facilitating seamless sharing. Upon acceptance of the invite, the sender will receive a notification confirming the connection.

Once set up, sharing videos becomes even simpler. Users can tap the familiar share button located beneath the video player, which will present a list of contacts to choose from. Moreover, the feature includes options to unsend or delete messages, adding a layer of control over the conversations.

Currently, this experiment is limited to users in Poland and Ireland, with no announcements regarding a broader rollout. As YouTube continues to explore this new avenue of user interaction, the potential for enhanced community engagement within the platform remains an exciting prospect for the future.
