Cleared Hot embraces a lighthearted approach, steering clear of taking itself too seriously. Players are introduced to a helicopter brimming with weaponry in the opening mission, only to be thrust forward 34 years into a narrative where the once-celebrated pilot has become a down-and-out figure. Now, he finds himself completing quirky tasks for a friend, such as using a grappling hook to return wayward chickens to their coop—an amusing premise that invites a playful suspension of disbelief.
However, not every aspect of the game is polished. The user interface is somewhat basic, and the voice acting may leave players wanting more. Yet, these imperfections do not detract from the overall experience, and the developers have the opportunity to refine these elements during the early access phase.
The development team, Not Knowing Corporation, has ambitious plans for the future of Cleared Hot. Currently, the game features only the first chapter set in the Texan desert, but upcoming updates promise to introduce new environments, including jungles, Arctic landscapes, and urban settings. Last year, Megacopter: Blades of the Goddess made its debut, offering a visual style reminiscent of the original with its vibrant 16-bit-inspired palette. However, it diverges from the Gulf War backdrop, opting instead for a fantastical scenario where players engage in combat against alien lizard people, with helicopters that harness blood to unleash special powers. A unique twist that certainly adds to its appeal.
