Cinder City is an open-world cinematic third-person shooter set in a dystopian near-future Seoul. The game's Steam page initially listed a requirement of 64GB of RAM, which was later corrected to a minimum of 32GB. A pre-alpha playtest is scheduled for August 14-16, available only to participants in the United States who are at least 16 years old and agree to a non-disclosure agreement. The publisher, NC, has indicated that final system requirements may be adjusted as optimization progresses. Additional playtests will be available in the future for a broader audience.

DOOM runs inside Paint on Windows, built by a Microsoft executive: “The spreadsheet-tier framerate is part of the charm.”

Mark Russinovich, the Chief Technology Officer for Microsoft Azure, has created a project called DoomPaint that allows the classic 1993 game DOOM to run within Microsoft Paint. The application works by placing each game frame on the Windows clipboard and pasting it into Paint, which acts as a display medium rather than a game engine. Users need to install Python to run DoomPaint, and there is also a demonstration video available. The project involves contributions from entities like Anthropic's Claude and Microsoft's GitHub Copilot. DoomPaint features working sound and music, but it is primarily a visual trick rather than a complete game engine conversion. To enhance the experience, players need a legitimate copy of DOOM's internal ".WAD" file.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has received two significant updates in its second year of post-release support. The Confrontation Update introduces a new enemy, the Sorcerer, and adds two new PvP arenas: Sanctum and Facility. It also includes weekly PvP rewards for players. Additionally, Steam Workshop support has been implemented, allowing for user-generated content, including the Astartes Overhaul mod, which rebalances gameplay and adds new classes and weapons. I was excited for this Quake port of Half-Life until I discovered the creator’s wild AI conspiracy theories

PS1 Classic Syphon Filter Gets an Unofficial PC Port

Syphon Filter, originally released on PlayStation in 1999, has been unofficially ported to PC. This version features an English launcher with game-image selection, internal resolution adjustments, aspect mode and fullscreen options, MSAA, and filtering options. It supports both keyboard and mouse as well as gamepad controls, with day-one keyboard and mouse support included. The port enhances visuals with dynamic scene lighting and realistic shadows, while restoring the original HUD, inventory systems, objectives, and weapon menus. Visual issues related to pickups and grenade effects have been fixed, and weapon muzzle flashes have been reinstated.
