The Arrival of The Darkness on PC
The long-awaited arrival of The Darkness on PC marks a significant moment for fans of the franchise. Originally launched in 2007 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, this mystical shooter had yet to see an official PC release until now. Thanks to the dedication of an enthusiastic developer known as portingpete, players can finally experience the game in its native form on their personal computers.
Portingpete has successfully created a port of the Xbox 360 version tailored for the Windows 64-bit operating system. This impressive feat means that players can enjoy the game without the need for emulation. As portingpete explains, “The executable file for the 360 is pre-translated to C++ and integrated with DarkRecomp.exe with the D3D11 renderer — no runtime emulation is performed.” This technical achievement ensures a seamless gaming experience.
The newly released native version of The Darkness offers a host of features that enhance gameplay. Players can expect:
- Original gameplay mechanics
- Support for both gamepad and mouse controls
- Comprehensive video settings, including field of view, resolution, gamma, frame rate limit, and vertical sync
- Fully functional sound and save systems
In a gesture of transparency and community spirit, portingpete has made the source code of the The-Darkness-Recomp project available on GitHub. However, it’s important to note that the archive does not include any game files protected by copyright. Players will need to provide their own image of the Xbox 360 version of The Darkness to fully enjoy this new release.
