WhatsApp Users Encounter Sending Issues
A significant number of WhatsApp users have recently been experiencing difficulties with the messaging app. Over half of the reported complaints are about an inability to send messages. To illustrate, one individual recounted an instance where a message that would have been sent without issue at one moment, suddenly displayed a ‘clock’ icon the next, indicating a failure to send. Initially, the user suspected their phone’s internet connection, only to realize the issue was with the app itself.
Additionally, 24% of the complaints are related to problems with server connections, and 21% are connected to the application’s functionality. Another user expressed frustration by noting that their app seemed to be perpetually ‘connecting’ without success.
Meta Platforms Face Connectivity Hurdles
Troubles aren’t isolated to WhatsApp alone; users of other Meta platforms are voicing outages as well. On Instagram, close to 3,000 users are battling access disruptions, while Facebook Messenger’s glitches have affected over a thousand individuals.
The disturbances on Instagram range from disappearing profile highlights to an inability to view who interacted with the users’ stories. Meanwhile, a Facebook Messenger user shared that although they could send messages, their contacts were unable to respond, with the app indicating that the user was ‘unavailable.’
DownDetector: The Outage Monitor
DownDetector serves as a digital beacon for those navigating the choppy waters of internet services. It’s a platform where users can report issues with a suite of popular services, including not just social media giants like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, but also providers such as Virgin Media.
The website doesn’t cry wolf at the slightest hiccup. It declares an incident only when there’s a significant spike in problem reports, surpassing the usual volume for the time of day. This helps ensure that the outages reported are indeed substantial and not just flukes.
As Meta scrambles to address these glitches across its family of apps, users are left to wonder when normalcy will resume. Those affected by the outages of WhatsApp, Instagram, or Facebook are encouraged to share their experiences, as collective user feedback may help shine a light on the breadth of the issue.
