In a significant enhancement for electric vehicle (EV) owners, Google Maps is set to roll out an update that will transform the way Android Auto users monitor their vehicle’s battery status. With the introduction of version 25.44, over 350 car models from 16 different manufacturers will benefit from AI-driven recommendations regarding charging needs, streamlining the process of planning long journeys.
Google Maps adds EV battery estimations for Android Auto
This innovative feature leverages advanced energy models to analyze key details about your vehicle, such as battery size and weight. By simply entering your destination, Google Maps will provide insights into your battery level upon arrival, along with an estimated time of arrival (ETA) that factors in necessary charging stops. Users will also receive suggestions on optimal locations to recharge their vehicles along the route.
The update will support a diverse range of manufacturers, including:
- Audi
- BMW
- Chevrolet
- Fiat
- Genesis
- Hyundai
- Jaguar
- Kia
- Lexus
- Lucid
- Mercedes-Benz
- Nissan
- Porsche
- Subaru
- Toyota
- Volkswagen
To take advantage of this feature, users will need to add their EV to Google Maps. Here’s how to do it:
- Open the Google Maps app on your smartphone.
- Select your profile icon.
- Tap Settings.
- Choose Your vehicles.
- Select Electric from the Engine type category.
- Choose Add vehicle under the Vehicle section.
- Enter the Make, Model, Year, and Trim of your vehicle.
- Under the Your plugs section, confirm the information is correct or select Edit to make adjustments.
Once your vehicle is added, you can easily view the estimated battery usage for your trip directly from the trip overview page. By inputting your current charge level, Google Maps will calculate the necessary details for your journey. However, it’s important to note that this feature does not maintain a live connection to your vehicle, meaning it won’t adjust based on real-time driving conditions. The accuracy of the information provided will depend on the precision of the details entered by the user.
This update promises to be an invaluable tool for EV drivers, particularly those embarking on longer trips, making the journey more manageable and less stressful.
