If you didn’t get a chance to play League of Legends’ Demacia Rising minigame, now you can

Demacia Rising emerged as an intriguing addition to the League of Legends universe, blending turn-based strategy with city-building elements. Players embark on a journey alongside the young character Lux, navigating the vibrant yet perilous landscape of Demacia. The game serves as a rich narrative experience, providing insights into the lore of the blue and gold city while highlighting the ever-looming threat from Noxus. As players advance, they are tasked with assembling an army, conquering settlements, and expanding Demacia’s territory, all while managing resources and optimizing city growth amidst fierce opposition.

Technical Challenges and Resilience

However, the launch of Demacia Rising was not without its hurdles. Unlike the more straightforward experiences of Spirit Blossom, Soul Fighter, and Jinx Fixes Everything, this minigame presented a higher level of complexity, which unfortunately led to a series of technical difficulties. Following its debut, the game was temporarily disabled for approximately two days due to overwhelming issues, as noted by Director of Product Drew ‘just a capybara’ Levin, who remarked that “EUW [was] on fire.” Although the situation stabilized over time, persistent saving issues lingered, causing frustration for many players.

For those who may have missed the initial launch, there is now a silver lining. Demacia Rising is fully accessible through the official League of Legends Wiki. Players can find the game listed under the ‘Minigame’ section, complete with both chapters—The Founding of Demacia and Threats From Beyond—alongside the full musical score and voice acting. Best of all, it is playable directly in a web browser, eliminating the need for any dubious downloads.

It is worth noting that the game does require “several MB of data,” making it less suitable for slower internet connections. However, it performed admirably on my aging work laptop, proving that it can still deliver an enjoyable experience without the latest hardware.

A Nostalgic Journey

As an aficionado of League of Legends lore, I find Demacia Rising to be one of my favorite minigames to date. The Lux comics from 2019 hold a special place on my bookshelf, and I often revisit them for a dose of nostalgia. Riot Games’ seasonal model has been gradually unveiling new lore and narratives, even as it revisits and reinterprets older tales. It is refreshing to see minigames delve into the rich history of Runeterra.

While I appreciate the depth of Demacia Rising, I still hold a fondness for the lighter, more whimsical games. Unsurprisingly, I thoroughly enjoyed the Spirit Blossom dating sim and the dynamic feel of Soul Fighter, despite its role as a potential testing ground for 2XKO. And yes, I did romance Thresh—because why not? As they say, haters gonna hate.
