Legal Action Against Piracy of Soviet Film Classics

The Moscow City Court has taken significant steps to curb the unauthorized distribution of nearly one hundred films from the Soviet cinematic canon, following a formal request from the renowned film studio, Mosfilm. The court’s ruling specifically targets the torrent tracker torrentino.com, as reported by RIA Novosti.

In a detailed examination of the case, the presiding judge acknowledged the petition submitted by the federal state unitary enterprise, Mosfilm, which was endorsed by its general director, Karen Shakhnazarov. The court has instituted preliminary protective measures aimed at safeguarding the exclusive rights associated with these iconic films.

Mosfilm now has a period of 15 days to file a formal lawsuit seeking a permanent ban on the pirated content. Should they fail to do so, the temporary measures currently in place will be lifted. The list of affected works comprises 94 titles, including some of the most celebrated Soviet and Russian films such as:

  • Assa
  • Afonya
  • White Sun of the Desert
  • Beware of Automobile
  • Big Change
  • The Diamond Arm
  • War and Peace
  • Train Station for Two
  • Garage
