Gemini Live redesign now works with more ‘Connected Apps’ on Android

In a significant update to its Neural Expressive redesign, Gemini Live on Android has expanded its integration capabilities, now allowing users to access a broader range of both first- and third-party “Connected Apps.” This enhancement aims to create a more fluid user experience, enabling individuals to effortlessly transition from typing quick inquiries to engaging in more extensive conversations without interruption.

The latest update introduces a new floating interface that integrates Gemini Live directly into the text chat experience. Previously, the platform was limited to connecting with Google services such as Calendar, Tasks, Keep, and Maps, along with third-party alternatives from manufacturers like Samsung, Honor, OnePlus, Oppo, Tecno, Vivo, and Xiaomi.

With this update, the first-party app list has expanded significantly. Users can now utilize services including Home, Hotels, Flights, Workspace, Image generation, Shopping, Utilities, YouTube, and YouTube Music. Additionally, support for Spotify has been added, enhancing the overall functionality of the platform.

Among the newly available features, the Utilities section on Android introduces timers and alarms, further bridging the gap between Gemini Live and the standalone Gemini app. However, it is worth noting that the ability to send Messages via Gemini Live is still forthcoming, as Google initially announced this feature during the Made by Google 2024 event.
