Minecraft Server Issues Disrupt Gameplay for Fans
Players of Minecraft faced a frustrating setback on June 3, as server issues hindered access to the beloved sandbox game. The problems primarily affected the Bedrock edition, where players encountered difficulties logging in due to authentication server malfunctions. Meanwhile, the Realms multiplayer system experienced downtime across both Bedrock and Java editions.
The disruptions began around midnight PDT (3 AM EDT, 8 AM BST, 9 AM CEST) and escalated throughout the day. While Java edition users were fortunate enough to maintain access to their single-player worlds, online services for both versions were significantly interrupted.
Bedrock players reported being unable to launch the game, facing one of two error messages: “Oh no! Something went wrong, and we couldn’t connect to the Minecraft services,” or “We were unable to verify what products you own. Please check your internet connection.” These issues stem from complications with Microsoft’s authentication servers, which are currently unable to verify game ownership.
In addition to the authentication woes, both Bedrock and Java players encountered problems with the Realms feature, which allows users to rent servers for online gameplay with friends. Many players experienced timeouts when attempting to join existing Realms, receiving an Error 502 message, indicating a temporary issue with either their internet connection or the server itself.
Frustration among fans has been palpable on social media, as many expressed their disappointment over the inability to engage with the game. While Java players could still explore their single-player worlds, Bedrock users found themselves in a waiting game, hoping for a resolution.
This incident follows a challenging week for Minecraft’s servers, which had already faced similar issues on June 1 due to a Microsoft Azure outage that impacted authentication servers and Xbox Live services.
As of now, Mojang has not provided any updates regarding the ongoing server issues, leaving players in the dark about when they might regain full access to the game.
