Messenger, Facebook, and Facebook Ads are experiencing an outage

Since 3:30 p.m. today, users of the popular messaging app Messenger and the social media giant Facebook have encountered significant disruptions. Reports of these outages have been steadily accumulating on Downdetector, a platform dedicated to tracking service interruptions. Currently, approximately 1,500 users have logged their experiences, indicating a widespread issue. The Facebook status page reflects a similar trend, with an increasing number of reports suggesting that the situation is affecting a considerable user base. As of now, there has been no formal announcement from Meta regarding the ongoing outage.

Many users are finding themselves unable to log into Messenger, greeted instead by a message stating: “Login failed. An unexpected error has occurred. Please try again.” Compounding the frustration, the Messenger Help Center on facebook.com is also temporarily inaccessible, leaving users without guidance or support during this disruption.

Outage in Facebook Ads

Coinciding with the Messenger and Facebook outages, Meta has confirmed that its Facebook Ads platform is also experiencing difficulties. This crucial tool for advertisers is currently facing challenges related to campaign creation, delivery, and performance reporting. At 3:39 p.m., a notice appeared on the status page indicating that the platform is in the process of recovering from a “previous outage.” Meta’s engineering teams are diligently working to rectify the issues, but the latest update at 4:12 p.m. suggests that further efforts are necessary. The message reassures users that the team is aware of the complications affecting advertisers trying to create or edit their ads in Ads Manager and is committed to resolving these issues as swiftly as possible.
