On June 12, a significant number of users experienced difficulties accessing Facebook and its associated platforms, Instagram and Messenger. Reports of these issues began surfacing around 10 a.m., with Downdetector, a service that monitors internet outages, indicating that nearly 85,000 users were affected. The peak of the outage saw approximately 123,000 reports at 9:48 a.m.
User Reports and Impact
In addition to Facebook, around 3,000 users reported problems with Instagram. Messenger also saw a spike in issues, although users attempting to access its dedicated page encountered a 404 error, indicating that the page could not be found.
As users turned to social media to express their frustrations, the situation drew attention to the reliability of Meta’s services, which are integral to daily communication for millions around the globe.
Understanding the Query Error
Some users reported encountering a query error while using Facebook. This issue arises when the platform is unable to retrieve data from Meta’s servers, leading to interruptions in service.
Meta’s Response and Current Status
According to Meta’s status page, the company is currently experiencing “high disruptions” particularly with Facebook Ads Manager. The engineering teams are reportedly aware of the situation and are actively working to resolve the issues as swiftly as possible. However, a timeline for when Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger will be fully operational again remains uncertain.
