Google Might Have Finally Fixed Android Auto’s Worst Connection Issue

Issues with Android Auto, particularly regarding device connections, have become a familiar challenge for many users. While some of these complications stem from the use of incompatible USB cables, others—especially those affecting Samsung Galaxy S26 series and Google Pixel devices—can be attributed to software glitches within Google’s ecosystem. Earlier this year, in April, Google attempted to address some of these connection problems with the release of Play Services version v26.15. However, it appears that this solution did not fully resolve the issues at hand. In response, Google has now introduced additional bug fixes in the latest update, Google Play Services v26.22.

The official changelog for this new version does not provide extensive details regarding the specific fixes implemented. It remains unclear whether this update directly addresses the connection problems experienced by Google and Samsung devices in March or if it targets a more significant underlying issue. The changelog simply notes: ‘[Auto] Bug fixes for Device Connections related services.’

When’ll you get the Android Auto connection fixes

The updated Google Play Services, which includes these critical bug fixes, began rolling out on June 8. Users may already have this version on their Android devices, as Google has subsequently released version 26.23. To check if you are running version 26.22 or newer, navigate to the Settings app on your phone, then go to Google > All services > System Services. Here, you can see the current version of Google Play Services and any available updates. If an update is pending, simply tap on the service name and select the ‘Update’ button to initiate the process.

While version 26.22 focuses solely on addressing device connection issues, the subsequent version 26.23, which is also in the process of rolling out, introduces performance enhancements and bug fixes related to system management and diagnostics services.

Beyond the connection challenges, 2026 is shaping up to be a promising year for Android Auto. The platform has undergone a significant update that transforms the user experience on the dashboard, alongside the introduction of support for Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader. Furthermore, Google has announced four exciting features set to arrive in Android Auto this year, including expanded widget support.
