Recent Improvements for Ubuntu 24.10 Desktop

Oliver Smith from Canonical has been actively discussing the upcoming enhancements for Ubuntu 24.10 in recent months. Both Canonical engineers and the Ubuntu community have been collaborating on various significant improvements for the desktop in the upcoming release.

  2. A PPA has been introduced for testing Authd, which is Canonical’s new authentication daemon designed for cloud-based identity providers such as OpenID Connect and Entra ID.
  3. GNOME 46.2 packages are now being integrated into Ubuntu updates.
  4. Improvements have been made to the Snap updating process as part of the broader Snap enhancements for Ubuntu 24.10.
