Blood Bowl’s videogame rights have been acquired by Slitherine and at this point I’ll take any change as a good sign

Slitherine, renowned for its publishing prowess in the realms of the Panzer Corps series and the Warhammer 40,000 titles such as Battlesector and Gladius, has recently acquired the rights to the beloved Blood Bowl series, a unique blend of fantasy sports and parody. This transition comes on the heels of Nacon’s insolvency declaration back in February, which not only impacted their operations but also cast uncertainty over the future of several projects, including Blood Bowl 3.

Transitioning Ownership

The rights to Blood Bowl were previously held by Nacon, whose financial troubles led to the unfortunate demise of the Greedfall developer, Spiders. This situation raised questions about the future of various hardware initiatives and the trajectory of Blood Bowl 3. Developers Cyanide had previously announced intentions to update the game, aligning it with the latest rules from the tabletop version, and rebranding it as Warhammer Blood Bowl. Although this plan faced delays, it now appears to be back on track under Slitherine’s stewardship.

Challenges with Blood Bowl 3

Upon its release, Blood Bowl 3 encountered significant hurdles, launching in a state riddled with bugs and plagued by microtransactions that frustrated players. The game’s live-service model further complicated the experience, leading many to seek refuge in Blood Bowl 2, which offers a more polished and user-friendly interface. While some of the more pressing issues have been addressed, navigating the menus remains a cumbersome task for players.

As Slitherine takes the reins, there is cautious optimism surrounding the future of Blood Bowl. With a commitment to enhancing the gaming experience and aligning it more closely with its tabletop roots, fans are hopeful that the series will regain its footing and deliver the engaging, whimsical gameplay they have come to cherish.
