Riot Games has embarked on a significant initiative to enhance the safety and oversight of young players in League of Legends. With the rollout of optional parental controls, the company aims to empower parents with tools designed to manage their children’s social interactions within the game. This update, part of patch 26.14, is a response to the growing need for parental involvement in the digital gaming landscape.
The newly introduced features allow parents to gain greater visibility into their child’s gaming experience. Among the key functionalities are:
- The ability to view and edit their child’s friend lists.
- Options to enable or disable communication channels, including text and voice chat.
- Access to messages from adult accounts that have interacted with their child over the past 30 days.
- Control over incoming friend requests, including the option to block them.
In addition to social management, Riot Games has integrated purchase and playtime limits into the parental controls. However, it is important for parents to note that these restrictions only apply to purchases made directly through Riot’s platforms. For transactions conducted via external platforms such as the App Store or PlayStation Store, separate management will be necessary. Furthermore, playtime limits are applicable solely to PC users, requiring additional oversight on other devices.
