Historic Victory at the Kyrgyzstan Grand Prix
In a remarkable display of skill and determination, American pilot Sean Torrente from Victory Team clinched victory at the inaugural Grand Prix of Kyrgyzstan, part of the Formula 1 H2O World Championship. The thrilling race unfolded on August 2, 2026, against the stunning backdrop of Lake Issyk-Kul.
Torrente completed an impressive 41 laps, finishing ahead of his closest competitor, Swedish driver Erik Stark from Team Abu Dhabi, by a margin of 4.731 seconds. Norwegian racer Marit Strømøy from Stromoy Racing secured third place, trailing Torrente by 8.414 seconds.
This victory awarded Torrente a total of 20 points, while Stark and Strømøy earned 15 and 12 points, respectively. The final standings also reflected penalties incurred during the race: Alek Vekström crossed the finish line in tenth place after falling a lap behind, and several drivers faced additional sanctions for infractions related to restart procedures and adherence to racing lines.
The event marked a historic milestone as the first Formula 1 H2O championship race held in Central Asia. A total of 18 pilots from eight teams, representing 13 nations, competed on a challenging circuit situated at an altitude of 1,607 meters above sea level. The track measured 1,929 meters in length and boasted a width of at least 45 meters.
The competition commenced on July 31 with practice sessions, leading to qualifying on August 1, where Swedish driver Jonas Andersson from Team Abu Dhabi secured pole position. Andersson triumphed in the first sprint, while Torrente claimed victory in the second. Despite starting from the second position in the main race, Torrente skillfully maneuvered past his rivals to seize the lead.
Kyrgyzstan was officially added to the Formula 1 H2O World Championship calendar in April 2026, highlighting the growing global interest in this exhilarating sport. The next leg of the season is set to take place in China from September 25 to 27, followed by the Shanghai Grand Prix on October 4 and 5.
