Google Raises Quality Requirements for Play Store Apps

Google is cracking down on functionally useless Android apps. The tech giant has announced that starting August 31st, Play Store apps will be required to provide a ‘stable, engaging, responsive user experience’. This move comes as part of Google’s efforts to improve the overall quality of apps available on the platform.

The new policy update targets apps that offer limited functionality and content, such as text-only apps, single wallpaper apps, or apps that serve no real purpose. These apps will no longer be allowed on the Play Store, as Google aims to ensure that all apps meet higher standards and provide users with quality functionality.

This is not the first time Google has taken steps to clean up its Play Store. In 2023, the company blocked as many as 2.28 million apps for violating policies and posing security risks to users. Additionally, Google banned 333,000 “bad” Google Play accounts for severe policy violations, fraud, and malware concerns.

By implementing stricter quality requirements, Google is working to create a more reliable and secure app ecosystem for Android users. Developers will need to ensure that their apps offer a stable and engaging user experience to remain on the Play Store.
