Enhanced Permission Management
The new inline dialog for granting permissions allows users to manage app installations without disrupting their current activity. Previously, users had to navigate away from their active app to adjust settings, a cumbersome process that often led to forgotten permissions. With this update, the workflow has been simplified, making it easier to sideload APKs while maintaining a level of security.
Among the notable features is the introduction of one-time install permissions. This allows users to grant temporary access for a single installation, after which the permission is automatically revoked. This feature not only enhances security but also caters to power users who frequently sideload applications.
Users now have three clear options when prompted to install an APK:
- Only this time: Grants permission for the current installation only, ensuring that the app will request permission again for future installations.
- Always allow: Provides permanent permission for the app to install unknown apps, eliminating the need for repeated prompts.
- Don’t allow: Denies permission and dismisses the dialog box.
Furthermore, the update allows users to manage their “Install unknown apps” settings more intuitively. Instead of a binary toggle, users can now choose between:
- Always allow: Similar to the previous setting, this option grants permanent installation permissions to the host app.
- Ask every time: This presents the new security prompt for user approval each time the host app attempts to install another application.
These enhancements provide users with greater control over their devices while ensuring a safer environment for app installations. The changes are already live in the beta version, with anticipation for their inclusion in the stable release, promising a more user-friendly experience for all Android enthusiasts.
