A few months back, Microsoft made a commitment to its Windows enthusiast community, vowing to implement a significant overhaul aimed at enhancing both performance and stability within the Windows 11 operating system. To gauge the effectiveness of these promises, we conducted a poll that garnered nearly 33,000 responses from users, all centered around a singular question: Are you experiencing the promised improvements in Windows 11?
Polarized Responses from the Community
The findings reveal a stark divide among the community. A considerable 43.4% of respondents reported that they have not noticed any tangible improvements since the promises were made. This statistic represents a substantial number of Windows 11 users globally who feel that their daily operations remain unchanged, despite Microsoft’s assurances of enhancement.
Even more concerning is the feedback from a significant portion of the enthusiast community, with approximately 38.1% indicating that their experience has actually worsened following the updates. Users have expressed frustration as Microsoft continues to roll out updates that seem to detract from everyday usability, often introducing new bugs in the process. A notable instance of this is the August update, which reset custom cursors to an oversized default setting, with many users reporting that their color and size adjustments fail to persist, regardless of how many times they are modified.
Furthermore, gameplay has been adversely affected, with reports of forced crashes, random freezing, and unexpected device restarts linked to RGB peripherals. In contrast, only 12.6% of poll participants acknowledged minor improvements in their daily use, while a mere 6.3% claimed to have experienced significant enhancements.
Understanding the User Experience
It’s essential to recognize that Windows 11 operates on approximately half a billion PCs worldwide, each with its own unique configurations and hardware idiosyncrasies. This diversity contributes to a wide array of user experiences, making it challenging to deliver a universally improved operating system.
At the recent IFA 2026 show, Microsoft reiterated its commitment to listening to user feedback regarding various facets of the Windows experience, including boot times, Windows Hello functionality, and optimizations for systems equipped with 8 GB of RAM. The company is actively working on enhancing Windows 11 performance through the introduction of the Low Latency Profile, which is set to expand to more applications. This initiative holds the potential to accelerate software launches, particularly on less powerful hardware. However, the real-world impact of these optimizations remains to be seen, leaving many users in a state of uncertainty regarding the future of their Windows experience.
