Norton antivirus software maker in talks to acquire GoDaddy – Domain Name Wire

The Financial Times has reported that Gen Digital, the parent company of Norton 360 antivirus software, is currently engaged in preliminary discussions to acquire GoDaddy. These talks are still in their infancy, leaving much to be explored in the potential partnership.

Gen Digital emerged in 2022 from the merger of NortonLifeLock and Avast, creating a formidable entity in the consumer cybersecurity landscape. As of the latest reports, Gen Digital held a market capitalization of .7 billion prior to the acquisition news. In contrast, GoDaddy, known for its web hosting and domain registration services, boasted a market cap of .2 billion.

Following the announcement, Gen Digital experienced a notable decline in its stock, falling by 7% and reducing its market cap to .6 billion. Conversely, GoDaddy’s stock surged by over 13%, elevating its market cap to .6 billion.

Concerns surrounding the influence of artificial intelligence on GoDaddy’s business model have weighed heavily on its stock performance. This backdrop raises the possibility that other companies may also consider approaching GoDaddy for acquisition discussions, potentially leading to a scenario where the company could transition to private ownership.
