Since late February 2026, Microsoft has quietly rolled out a new feature designed to enhance user experience with internet connectivity. This addition, available through Windows Update, allows users to conveniently assess their internet speed directly from their taskbar.
Streamlined Access to Speed Testing
To utilize this new functionality, users need only to right-click on the network or Wi-Fi icon located in the bottom-right corner of their screen. In a seamless integration, the option Perform Speed Test now graces the menu, inviting users to take a closer look at their internet performance.
Upon selecting this option, users are directed to a dedicated page on Microsoft’s Bing search engine. Here, they will find a browser-based speed test powered by Ookla’s renowned Speedtest service. As the unofficial global leader in internet speed assessments, Ookla provides a reliable benchmark for users eager to gauge their connection quality.
While the option in the network icon’s context menu serves as a simple link, it significantly simplifies the process of running the Ookla test, making it more accessible for users who may not be familiar with navigating to the website independently. This thoughtful enhancement reflects Microsoft’s commitment to improving user experience and ensuring that internet connectivity remains a priority for its users.
