Snapseed could soon bring a professional camera feature to your phone

Google is enhancing its Snapseed app with a promising new feature: Focus Peaking. This tool, typically found in professional camera setups, aims to assist users in achieving optimal focus by highlighting in-focus areas directly within the viewfinder. Evidence of this feature was discovered in the latest version of Snapseed (v4.1.10.992428248), and with a bit of exploration, it was successfully enabled.

What Focus Peaking Brings to Snapseed

Once implemented, users will find a new toggle for Focus Peaking nestled within the camera settings of the Snapseed app. This feature can be activated or deactivated at will, allowing photographers to see precisely which areas of their composition are in focus, illuminated by the app’s selected theme color.

For those unfamiliar with the concept, Focus Peaking serves as a visual aid, drawing attention to the sharpest details of a subject. This functionality is particularly beneficial for manual focusing, ensuring that critical elements are captured with precision, whether for still photography or video recording.

In addition to Focus Peaking, the latest update also enhances LUT workflows by incorporating support for HaldCLUT. While this capability is already present in the current app version, the Focus Peaking feature remains under development. Early attempts to utilize the toggle revealed that the feature is still a work in progress, as it did not function as intended.

As Snapseed continues to evolve, users can anticipate further refinements and the eventual rollout of Focus Peaking in future updates. The journey from concept to completion may take some time, but the potential for improved photographic precision is certainly on the horizon.

⚠️ An APK teardown serves as a window into future features based on the underlying code, though it is important to note that not all anticipated features may reach public release.
