Microsoft has expanded the rollout of the Secure Boot 2023 certificate update to more Windows 11 and Windows 10 devices with the June 2026 Patch Tuesday update (KB5094126). This update aims to ensure that most supported consumer PCs are classified as high confidence, meaning necessary certificates are either installed or will be applied automatically. Secure Boot is a firmware security feature that verifies the software attempting to load during the startup process, blocking unauthorized software. The certificates supporting Secure Boot, issued in 2011, are expiring in stages starting June 24, 2026, prompting Microsoft to deploy replacement certificates. Most home users do not need to take manual action as the updates will occur automatically via Windows Update. Users can check their Secure Boot certificate status in the Windows Security app. A yellow warning indicates pending compatibility data, while a red alert suggests a firmware incompatibility requiring a BIOS update. Multiple reboots during the update process are normal, and a new SecureBoot folder in Windows is for staging cryptographic files. Older PCs may experience longer update times, and some may not receive updates due to firmware issues. HP users should check for BIOS updates if encountering BitLocker recovery loops. IT administrators should monitor device classifications and manually initiate updates for devices not in the high confidence category. Devices with Secure Boot disabled cannot receive updates, leaving them vulnerable. The expiration of the Microsoft Corporation KEK CA 2011 certificate on June 24 does not immediately affect device functionality, but it limits Microsoft's ability to sign new bootkit blacklist updates.

Microsoft has introduced pg_durable, a PostgreSQL extension that enables developers to execute durable workflows within the database, reducing the need for external orchestration systems. It simplifies workflow management by allowing developers to express long-running, fault-tolerant SQL functions directly in SQL, managing execution concerns like retries and recovery. Workflows are defined in SQL, with the extension handling retry states, progress tracking, and checkpointing. A pg_durable function operates as a graph of SQL steps that can resume from the last durable checkpoint after a failure. The extension preserves execution states within PostgreSQL tables, ensuring workflows can withstand crashes and restarts. It includes a domain-specific language (DSL) for scheduling and parallel execution. An example of a durable function is provided, demonstrating sequential and parallel execution using specific operators. pg_durable is particularly useful for vector embedding pipelines and scheduled maintenance tasks. Architecturally, it consists of a PostgreSQL extension and a background worker built on Rust libraries, without any external control plane. Durable execution allows long-running workflows to automatically resume from failure points, simplifying distributed system architecture.

The COSMIC desktop environment, built on Rust and Wayland, is introducing a "Frosted Glass" appearance reminiscent of Windows Aero. System76 CEO Carl Richell announced that the feature is nearing completion and aims to balance aesthetics and functionality, allowing users to adjust the effect's prominence or disable it. Development screenshots have been shared, and the Frosted Glass effect will be integrated into the COSMIC compositor and libcosmic toolkit, with an expected release in the near future.

Microsoft resolved an issue causing installation failures and error code 0x800f0922 during the deployment of the May 2026 Windows 11 security update (KB5089549), which was linked to insufficient free space on the EFI System Partition (ESP). The problem mainly affected devices with 10 MB or less available space, leading to automatic rollbacks of the update. The resolution was provided through the release of the Windows 11 KB5089573 preview cumulative update on May 26, 2026. Users installing updates released on or after this date will not need a workaround, while those with earlier updates can use the Known Issue Rollback feature. Additionally, IT administrators in enterprise settings can manually address the issue through Group Policy configurations. The KB5089573 update introduced 30 changes to improve performance and reliability.

Star Citizen has surpassed billion in player funding. The single-player component, Squadron 42, is reportedly in the "closing stages" of development, according to Chris Roberts. It entered a beta phase earlier this year, but concerns about its performance have led sources to suggest a release date in 2027. There is speculation that Squadron 42 may be showcased at this year's Summer Games Fest, based on hints from a senior game designer.

Slots & Daggers is a new game that combines roguelike mechanics with slot machine gameplay, developed by solo developer Friedemann. The game can be completed in a few days and features a gritty table setting with items like cards and a slot machine. Players choose three pieces of equipment for their journey, and each turn involves spinning three slot machine wheels that trigger actions based on the symbols that land. Players accumulate poker chips as currency to purchase modifiers that enhance gameplay, but the game includes moments of artificial difficulty that may frustrate players. It is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

3D Pinball for Windows – Space Cadet was included with several Microsoft operating systems until Windows XP and was part of the Full Tilt! Pinball software collection launched by Maxis in 1995. Deeproot Pinball attempted to create a physical version of Space Cadet but faced collapse before completion. Hobbyist CNCDan is now working on a physical Space Cadet table, featuring 3D-printed mechanical flippers, pop bumpers with embedded LEDs, slingshots, and a raised playfield. He has encountered challenges with the size and positioning of table elements, resulting in a playfield that measures 56 cm in width, which is smaller than typical commercial pinball tables.
