The ongoing saga of Android Auto continues, as users of Google’s Pixel 11 series report a troubling new issue with Google Maps. Recent discussions on platforms like Reddit and the official Android Auto support community reveal that many Pixel 11 owners are experiencing significant disruptions while using the navigation app. Reports indicate that Google Maps is freezing, flickering, and displaying unusual graphical glitches, which detracts from the driving experience.
In some instances, users have described seeing “pixelated black static” where the map should be visible, while other applications function without any problems. This issue appears to affect both wired and wireless connections to Android Auto, and attempts to resolve it through uninstalling the app or clearing its cache have proven ineffective.
It’s unclear when a fix will arrive
The root cause of this problem remains uncertain, and it is not yet clear whether Google is actively addressing it. Historically, the tech giant has been prompt in responding to previous Android Auto issues, although not all updates have successfully resolved the problems. Given this pattern, it is reasonable to anticipate an announcement from Google in the near future.
Interestingly, some users have discovered that keeping their device unlocked can lead to smoother operation of Android Auto, while others report no issues at all. Earlier this year, an update to Android Google Play Services aimed to address connection-related bugs for Pixel and Samsung devices, but feedback has been mixed regarding its effectiveness. A subsequent update in July also yielded varied results among users.
For those who primarily rely on Waze rather than Google Maps, the impact of this issue may be less pronounced. However, for those affected, the disruption is certainly noteworthy. As the community awaits further information from Google, the conversation around this latest Android Auto challenge continues to unfold.
