Android YouTube App Testing Automatic Shorts Playback on Startup

In a recent development, Google appears to be experimenting with the Android version of its popular “YouTube” app, introducing an intriguing yet potentially unwelcome feature. Users have reported that upon launching the app, “YouTube Shorts”—the platform’s short-form video content—begin to play automatically.

This behavior was notably observed on the “Pixel 11 Pro Fold,” where the moment the app is opened, “YouTube Shorts” starts rolling without any user intervention. Interestingly, even after attempting to “Force Stop” the app, the autoplay feature persists, resuming the playback of Shorts upon reopening the application. However, this phenomenon has not been universally confirmed across all Android devices, leaving some users unaffected.

Adding to the frustration, there seems to be no available setting within the app to disable this autoplay feature for “YouTube Shorts.” This lack of control has raised concerns among users, who find the automatic playback to be more of an annoyance than a convenience.
