Free webinar offers education on antivirus software and scams

In a proactive move to bolster digital safety, AARP is set to host a financial security event this Wednesday afternoon, dedicated to empowering individuals with the knowledge needed to safeguard their devices against digital threats. As our lives become increasingly intertwined with technology, understanding how to navigate potential risks is essential.

Understanding Digital Threats

The upcoming webinar will delve into the intricacies of antivirus software and the pervasive issue of malware—often referred to as “malicious software.” This session is part of a broader initiative, featuring a series of financial security workshops that will unfold over the coming weeks and extend into the summer months. Participants can choose to engage in these informative courses either in-person or through online platforms.

The Fraud Watch Network will take center stage during the event, providing insights into various types of malware and elucidating how these threats operate. Attendees will also be introduced to an array of programs designed to effectively eliminate viruses from their devices, along with strategies to prevent future infections.

Judy Mizel, a passionate advocate for scam prevention, emphasizes the critical need for awareness, particularly among seniors. “I think so many, and especially older people, get caught up in these scams,” she remarked. “Don’t give anybody your address, your phone number or that kind of stuff.”

For those eager to enhance their understanding of online safety and learn practical measures to protect themselves from scams, registration for the webinar is open. The session is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon from 1 to 2 p.m. Click here to register.
