The introduction of Gemini for Android Auto has faced significant challenges since its launch, with users reporting issues such as commands failing to execute and the system pausing without providing answers. A video shared on Reddit highlighted this behavior, which does not appear to be related to signal strength or question complexity. The problem has been observed across various device brands, including Google’s Pixel, Samsung, and Motorola, with no acknowledgment from Google regarding the complaints.

On October 1, Google introduced the Guided Vision feature within the Gemini Live platform, aimed at enhancing the experience for users with visual impairments. This feature provides real-time descriptions of camera focus and verbal guidance for optimal viewing. It is designed to assist individuals who are blind or have low vision, as well as those needing visual support, but is not a replacement for medical devices or mobility aids. Guided Vision offers coaching capabilities, giving users verbal prompts to adjust camera positioning for clearer visuals. Practical applications include reading small print, identifying items, choosing outfits, and understanding unfamiliar room layouts. Google collaborated with Aira to train the feature using extensive real-world data and feedback from blind and low-vision communities across multiple countries. Users can activate Guided Vision on Android devices through the Gemini app, Android accessibility shortcuts, or the TalkBack menu. It is compatible with Android devices running version 9 and above and is available in regions and languages where Gemini Live is supported.

Google is experimenting with a new biometric verification feature for password autofill in Chrome on Android devices, which may require users to authenticate their identity through fingerprint scans, facial recognition, or other methods before accessing saved passwords. This initiative aims to enhance security by preventing unauthorized access to stored passwords, even if a device is unlocked. The feature has resurfaced in the latest Chrome Canary build after a previous attempt was shelved over a year ago. Users will need to authenticate themselves before Chrome releases a saved credential, similar to existing biometric methods for password autofill on Apple devices. The feature is currently in the experimental phase with no official release timeline announced.

Earlier this year, Android Auto users experienced the disappearance of cellular signal bars, which caused frustration among drivers. Google is currently rolling out a fix for this issue, with some users reporting the return of signal bars after updating to Android Auto v17.8, initially available as a beta release. Mishaal Rahman confirmed that the company is aware of the problem and is working on a solution. The rollout of the fix is gradual, so it may take time for all users to receive the update. Joining the Android Auto beta program may allow users to resolve the issue sooner.
