Android Auto’s signal bars are finally returning to dashboards

Earlier this year, Android Auto users faced a peculiar challenge: the disappearance of the cellular signal bars, a feature that many relied upon to gauge their connectivity while on the road. This glitch has lingered for several months, causing frustration among drivers who depend on real-time information during their journeys.

Progress on the Fix

However, a glimmer of hope has emerged. Recent updates indicate that Google is actively addressing this issue. Reports suggest that some users have noticed the return of the signal bars following an update to Android Auto v17.8, albeit this version was initially available only as a beta release.

Mishaal Rahman, a former Android Authority contributor now working at Google, has confirmed that the company is in the process of rolling out a fix for the missing cellular signal bars. In his words:

“We’re aware of reports about the missing cellular signal, and we’re actually currently rolling out a fix that should hopefully address this issue!”

While this announcement is certainly encouraging, it’s important to note that the fix has not yet reached all users. The rollout is gradual, meaning that it may take some time before the update becomes available on every device. For those eager to resolve the issue sooner, joining the Android Auto beta program could be a viable option.
