Obsidian’s Ambitious Lineup for 2025
In a remarkable display of creativity and efficiency, Obsidian Entertainment is making waves with its upcoming releases, solidifying 2025 as a landmark year for the studio. With the successful launch of Avowed already in the books, anticipation is building for The Outer Worlds 2, set to debut in October. However, the studio’s portfolio also includes an intriguing outlier: Grounded 2, a survival game that diverges from the RPG genre for which Obsidian is best known.
Grounded 2 is poised to capture the attention of gamers with its unique premise and gameplay mechanics. During a recent hands-on session at Summer Game Fest, the game showcased its expansive new open world, set in a city park that transforms into an alien landscape when players are shrunk down to the size of an ant. This opening area is notably larger than the entire map of the original Grounded, promising players a wealth of exploration opportunities.
Players will find themselves zipping around the map with the aid of buggies, enhancing the sense of adventure and discovery. Although the demo concluded before reaching the map’s edge, it offered a glimpse into a serene segment of the environment—a cozy tunnel nestled beneath wooden boards, measuring approximately 3 feet by 5 feet, providing a perfect hideaway amidst the chaos.
Despite being the last of the trio to be unveiled, Grounded 2 is set to launch in early access ahead of The Outer Worlds 2. Starting July 29, gamers across all platforms (excluding PlayStation) will have the chance to dive into a substantial portion of the map, along with the first chapter of the game’s story. This early access phase not only allows players to experience the game ahead of its full release but also positions Obsidian to gather valuable feedback to refine the final product.
