Age of Wonders 4’s next expansion introduces nomadic, post-apocalyptic bunnies

Expansion Introduces Harefolk and New Challenges

In a delightful twist for fans of the Age of Wonders series, the upcoming expansion, Rise from Ruin, introduces a new species: the harefolk. These anthropomorphic hares, having survived an apocalyptic event, embody speed and endurance. Players can customize these characters with traits already unlocked, adding a layer of strategic depth to empire-building.

Accompanying the harefolk is a new map type known as the Astral Barrens. This harsh landscape, born from a magical calamity, presents unique challenges. Here, mana is drained from the living, and spellcasters must navigate the risks of unstable spells that could backfire at any moment.

To thrive in this unforgiving environment, players will have access to three new magical tomes:

  • Tome of the Warband: Enhances the ability to raise stronger armies.
  • Tome of the Sandwalkers: Allows players to spread sand across their territory, blinding enemies and summoning desert guardians.
  • Tome of the Warlord: Grants access to powerful warriors and infernal allies.

In addition to these new features, the expansion will introduce a pair of mounts, five new realm traits, fresh music, and more narrative content, enriching the gameplay experience. A free update, dubbed Scorpion, will also be released simultaneously, offering quality of life improvements, bug fixes, a combat balance overhaul, and new customization options.

Set to launch on March 9, this expansion is generating excitement among the community. While some may critique Paradox’s DLC-focused strategy, the Age of Wonders 4 expansions have largely been well-received, celebrated for their engaging new features rather than divisive content. The introduction of post-apocalyptic, nomadic bunnies is a testament to the creativity and charm that fans have come to expect from the series.
