Another obscure Final Fantasy game could come to PC with Square Enix “exploring the possibility” of porting Dissidia Duellum

Square Enix is currently contemplating the potential for a PC release of its latest title, Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy, following its recent launch on mobile platforms. In a conversation with Siliconera, producer Naoya Matsumoto addressed the design choice behind the game’s vertical screen orientation and its exclusive portrait mode. He emphasized that this decision was driven by the game’s vision of being a “casual competitive game that anyone can easily play.” According to Matsumoto, the portrait mode was deemed the most effective format, as it facilitates one-handed gameplay on smartphones, catering to a broader audience.

Challenges in the Mobile Gaming Landscape

However, the mobile gaming arena has seen its share of challenges, particularly for titles within the Final Fantasy franchise. Square Enix has previously shuttered several mobile games, including World of Final Fantasy: Meli-Melo, Final Fantasy Explorers Force, and Final Fantasy 7 The First Soldier, each lasting approximately a year before their discontinuation. With the current iteration of Dissidia already facing a wave of criticism from fans, there are concerns that it may soon join the ranks of these discontinued titles.

In a more positive development for the community, Final Fantasy 14 has lifted its restrictions on gifting after a four-year hiatus. Players can now share single-character mounts, minions, and other items with fellow fans of the MMO, a change that has been met with enthusiasm and relief from the player base.
