Baldur’s Gate 3 on PS5 Is Essentially The Same As PC Version’s Ultra Settings

For those contemplating whether to immerse themselves in the world of Baldur’s Gate 3 on PlayStation 5 or PC, there’s no need for trepidation regarding the PC specifications. Eurogamer has confirmed that the graphical settings on the PS5 mirror those of a high-end PC running the game on Ultra settings. This parity is particularly noteworthy given the game’s demanding graphics, expansive environments, and intricate visual effects.

Having been available on PC for some time, Baldur’s Gate 3 has undergone numerous updates aimed at enhancing performance across a variety of hardware configurations. Initial concerns about the game’s performance have largely been alleviated, with reports indicating that it operates smoothly even in the challenging Act Three, albeit with some shared issues between the two platforms.

While the game is primarily designed for keyboard and mouse controls, it accommodates controllers on both PS5 and PC. Early gameplay is manageable, though some players may find the interface slightly awkward. As players progress and unlock more abilities and items, the radial menus can become increasingly complex, potentially leading to a more cumbersome experience.

Visually, the PS5 version of Baldur’s Gate 3 is strikingly similar to its PC counterpart, maintaining the high-quality aesthetic expected from ultra settings. Eurogamer highlights that the PS5 offers two image quality options, with the game natively running at 1440p, devoid of reconstruction or dynamic resolution adjustments. When choosing between Quality and Performance modes, players will find minimal differences in visual fidelity.

In Performance mode, the game aims for 60 frames per second (fps), achieving this in most scenarios, particularly in enclosed spaces and during combat. However, certain areas, especially in the densely populated city of Act 3, present challenges that can lead to performance dips, occasionally dropping to the low twenties in fps. Screen tearing is also noted when frame rates fall below 60, which can detract from the overall experience.

Alternatively, the Quality Mode targets a stable 30fps, though it too is not immune to performance issues in the bustling city environment of Act 3. Despite these challenges, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been well-received on the PS5, provided players are willing to adapt to the radial menu complexities as they progress through the game.
